USA extends de jure recognition to the first Government of Israel - 31 January 1949
The United States of America extended de jure recognition to the first Government of Israel on 31 January 1949; the USA had been the first country to recognise the provisional Jewish government as de facto authority of the Jewish state at midnight on 14 May 1948.
De jure recognition of a government by the United States effectively acknowledges a foreign government as the depository of a state’s sovereignty and signals a general willingness to enter into normal diplomatic relations.
